DubStep's origins can be traced to the mid-90s London garage scene. The music was majorly characterized by bass and drums, with interspersed vocals to complement the sound. A promotion flyer aptly described this genre of music: Bass lines that will make your chest cavity shudder. DubStep had a slow start in London, but took the music industry by storm in 2005. Since then, mainstream artists like Snoop Dogg and Britney Spears have collaborated with DubStep artists. 1. Skream: One of the most popular dubstep artists, Skream along with his long-time who come in at number 2, Skream is regarded as the pioneer of the DubStep movement. 'Midnight Request Line' and 'Remix-Going in For the Kill (La Roux)' are considered to be his best songs. He has released two albums-Skream! and Outside the Box; both are considered critical and commercial successes. You must check these out before ruling him out as the no. 1 DubStep artist.



2. Benga: He makes his own music and collaborates with Skream. Either way, he is also a master and pioneer of DubStep. He has released two albums and a number of singles. 5. Caspa: Like Benga, Caspa has often collaborated with Rusko. He has also released his own albums. His remixes are widely popular. He has released one album: Everybody's Talking, Nobody's Listening.


6. Skrillex: This American DubStep artist deserves credit for his contributions in making DubStep a worldwide musical phenomenon. He has collaborated with a number of artists like Ellie Goulding, Korn, Last; he has also won Grammy awards and MTV awards for his Electronics albums. He is the most popular dubstep artist in America.

7. Burial: He entered the music scene in 2005, and has since released 2 albums (Burial, Untrue), both of which were critically acclaimed. His genres include: dubstep, ambient and 2 step garage.


8. Chase and Status: This duo have released two albums (More than a lot, No more idols) and have collaborated with mainstream contemporary artists like Rihanna, Cee Lo Green, Plan B.


9. Nero: This electronic music trio specialise in house bass, house and dubstep. They have been nominated for BBC sound of 2011, and have one album to their name: Welcome Reality.


10. Digital Mystikz: This act consists of dubstep heavyweights Mala and Coki. They have not released any album, but are hugely popular in the London club scene.
